Things to Consider Before You Start Planning Your Wedding

After the excitement of getting engaged you are going to want to jump right into planning the wedding! There are a couple things to consider before you even start the planning process. With many changes in what we can expect from events, here are some questions to ask yourself first!

What size wedding do you really want?

With the new trends of minimonies, elopements, and micro-weddings, the traditional guest list has changed for the upcoming seasons. As we have learned, there are ways to reduce your guest list and plan alternate events leading up to or after the wedding to celebrate with friends and family.

What is your total budget?

Thinking about your total budget from the start will make planning a whole lot easier. When considering how much you plan on spending, you want to first calculate how much you will have over the next couple weeks for deposits. Most of the balance for vendors typically is not due until the weeks prior to the date. You’ll have time to save up, but will need some cash up front to lock in the contract.

How many in-person meetings can you expect?

When booking all your vendors, a couple meetings typically happen in person across the board. You want to consider how much physical time you will have to set aside for appointments such as meeting with your wedding planner, your photographer, cake tastings, dress fittings, venue tours, floral consultations, this list can go on!

Our first recommendation is to consider hiring a wedding planner, of course! When you start planning your wedding you may not be sure where to begin, what questions or ask, or how much time to invest. Your planner is there to help guide the way and focus on major milestones as you begin booking vendors and making decisions. Best of all, if something crazy happens (like you know…a pandemic!) they are there for you to help communicate with vendors and make alternate plans.
